For two reasons mostly. 1. The massing (the overall shape and volume) is derived from the other larger co-ops on Eastern Parkway. The upper portion steps back which also visually breaks up what would otherwise be a massive building. 2. The facade on the Eastern Parkway side is split up into three parts thereby making the width of the facade more in keeping with the lot widths of the surronding buildings. Of course no other building on Eastern Parkway is made of a glass curtain wall however the glass is very well done and gives the building a serene, quiet quality.

JGNY - out of curiosity, how do you find this one to be contextual?

the glass is an improvement over the other concrete buildings that look like dental labs that are going up everywhere else. But I do think it's too big.

Sweet shot. This building is an example of how one can be modern and contextual. Meier is a bit dull but what he does he does well.
